YOUR CREW ABOARD THE MV SEA WOLF

KIMBER OWEN
Owner, Naturalist and Conservationist

Kimber has a variety of life experiences with people, horses and wildlife. She grew up in a hotel restaurant family learning fine restaurant skills from being a cook to handling marketing . A love for horses and a desire to better their lives led her to take a giant leap of faith of leaving the hospitality industry, furthering her education and opening an equine breeding and training facility. A bigger dream of helping people with disabilities overcome obstacles evolved into a therapeutic riding center for the disabled. She has participated in many equine and wildlife studies nurturing her love for nature and the conservation of wildlife habitat. Alaska has always been in her heart. She earned her Captain USCG 100-Ton Master in 2003. A romantic ship plying the coasts of Alaska, British Columbia and Washington showing people the wonders of nature - what better life could there be!

Kimber's best buddy is BOO "THE BOAT DOG" OWEN.  Boo is a Portuguese Water Dog/Lab Cross: very friendly somewhat hypo-allergenic as she has hair akin to human hair. She loves to kayak and, when home in Elfin Cove, romp on the beach playing with her fellow Alaskan Buddies. She actually gets more mail (and treats!) than the rest of us :)

Mike Miszerak
Captain and Port Engineer
200 Ton Master

Mike graduated from Brown University with a degree in engineering. He worked in the aerospace field and then retired to the good life on the sea.  He lives with his wife Joyce in Port Townsend, WA, where in their free time they sail their boat exploring the Inside Passage. Both are committed to the slo-foods movement and partner with local fisherman supporting sustainable fisheries.  Mike has single-handedly sailed from Mexico to Alaska. Mike has been on board Sea Wolf as Captain and Port Engineer since 2006.  Very savvy in the ways of the sea, he brings the Sea Wolf into magical fjords and harbors where boats are seldom seen.

Steve Morrell:
Captain
200 Ton Master

Steve grew up playing in the sand dunes of San Francisco's Sunset district, exploring Golden Gate Park, fishing at Lake Merced, and looking west to the Farallon Islands. After completing his Master's degree in Zoology at UC Santa Barbara, he spent the next 10 years studying seabirds and marine mammals on those same Farallon Islands as well as on St. Matthew Island, Alaska and Ross Island, Antarctica. Enroute to New Zealand to live, Steve was sidetracked by an offer to work on a fishing boat in Southeast Alaska for a summer. Captivated by the wilderness he experienced that first summer, Steve moved instead to Alaska. After 18 summers of salmon fishing (mostly in Southeast) interspersed with occasional work as a biologist, Steve realized that his favorite parts of his "fishing experience" were not fishing but rather exploring the waters and forests of Southeast and watching the wildlife and fish therein. In discussing his passion for the wilderness of Southeast Alaska and his desire to spend more time exploring it by boat, friends in the fishing industry steered him to small boat passenger charters. Says Steve, "I enjoy sharing the beauty and the powerful wildness of Southeast with our guests, and I love just WATCHING salmon. Every trip is a new adventure."

Steve now lives in Mt. Shasta, California with his sweetheart, Judy, and their cat. He migrates north for the summer

Jenny Hahn
Naturalist

Jennifer Hahn: I'd call Jennifer a "Rennaisance Sea Kayaker." Award-winning writer, illustrator, naturalist, welder, wildharvester, writing teacher, wilderness guide, and solo kayaker -- Jennifer calls the land her second home. With 26 years of wilderness travel under hull--including her solo kayak from Ketchikan, Alaska to Bellingham, Washington over two springs and summers--Jennifer is a sought-after guide, teacher, and lecturer. Jennifer’s book “SPIRITED WATERS: SOLOING SOUTH THROUGH THE INSIDE PASSAGE” won the "Barbara Savage MILES FROM NOWHERE Memorial Award" for an adventure narrative. She studied under Pulitzer-prize-author Annie Dillard. In 1989, she founded Elakah! Kayak Expeditions. She has led natural history and kayak trips in Washington, Canada, Alaska, Baja and the Galapagos Islands. SEATTLE TIMES/PACIFIC NORTHWEST MAGAZINE recently featured her foraging skills in an article: Wildharvest Feast: Where the Wild Things Are. She is currently writing two books. The first is about, you guessed it, wild food foraging. The second has ”something to do with adventure travel, a wanderlust childhood, and welding.”
